People born into poverty, especially in this area of India, are affected more by climate. In the Kadapa area where Balamma Satram is situated the climate is sub-tropical. High temperatures rising to over 52 degrees Celsius and very little rainfall add to the problems of the people already living in desperate conditions.
Gender parity is a human right but in much of India women and girls experience disadvantage and discrimination. This discrimination not only affects their right to education but also their fundamental rights also.
The initial need for this project was that so many aged people were found either without homes or abandoned by their families who they themselves were not able to look after their own basic needs.
